We are happy to announce that RAWGraphs has received the "Test of Time" Award at the 2024 Information is Beautiful Awards. This award recognizes works that have had a lasting impact since their creation, and we are grateful to have our work acknowledged in this way.
RAWGraphs began as a side project in 2013 and has grown into an independent, open-source tool used worldwide. Since the release of RAWGraphs 2.0 in 2021, we’ve seen significant growth, with an average of 20,000 monthly users and almost 1.5 million sessions (according to the analytics of our website).
These numbers reflect the growing importance of the tool for data visualization across various fields and industries, particularly in research, where our tool is widely adopted. Our paper has been cited 566 times on Google Scholar, highlighting the significant impact RAWGraphs has had in academic and research fields.
We think that one of the key reasons for RAWGraphs’ success is its sustainable approach. The tool is built on lean technology and does not store any data, ensuring privacy for all users. This makes RAWGraphs not only an efficient and accessible tool but also one that prioritizes transparency and data security. Additionally, its user-friendly interface make it an great choice for those taking their first steps in the field of data visualization, making complex tasks approachable and easy to understand.
This award is a significant recognition for us as it highlights the longevity and impact of RAWGraphs. It serves as a reminder that open-source projects, when developed with care and sustainability in mind, can have a lasting influence. We are proud to see RAWGraphs continue to be a valuable resource for anyone looking to create insightful data visualizations.
To celebrate this achievement, we’ll be using the prize to dedicate more time to fixing bugs and adding new features, including custom charts. We’re excited to improve the tool further and continue to provide even more functionality to our users.
We also want to remind our community that supporting RAWGraphs helps ensure its continued development. You can support us by donating through GitHub Sponsors, inviting us to give workshops, or reaching out in any other way that feels right for you. We encourage anyone who wants to contribute to the project to get in touch with us. Every bit of support is invaluable in keeping this project alive and sustainable.
Lastly, we'd like to extend a special thank you to Giorgio Caviglia, the former project leader during his phd at Politecnico di Milano and the mind behind RAWGraphs. His dedication and deep understanding of UX/UI design and information design, laid the foundation for the tool we have today, and we are deeply grateful for his contributions.
We’d like to extend our thanks to the RAWGraphs community—our users, contributors, and supporters—who have helped make this achievement possible. We look forward to continuing to exist and improve RAWGraphs for many years to come.
